What is the TPU material?


TPU(Thermoplastic polyurethanes) name is thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer rubber, TPU is a kind of polymer material between rubber and plastic, which is synthesized by reaction polymerization of diphenyl methane diisocyanate (MDI), toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and other diisocyanate molecules with macromolecular polyols and low molecular polyols (chain extender). It has the softness of rubber and the hardness of hard plastic.

With strong high tension and tension, it is a mature environmental protection material, and has been certified by international environmental protection materials. The material softens at a certain heat, but stays the same at room temperature. Used in a variety of products, plays the role of stable support.




What are the types of TPU?


At present, there are many new materials of TPU series, such as: waterproof and breathable TPU membrane material, nano fiber diaphragm, a variety of. Some transparent, some colorful, look very beautiful; To touch or smooth as silk, or with silk strands of texture. These TPU materials do not have any rubber, plastic smell.

There are two methods of TPU composite fabric, one is called post paste, first made of TPU film and then bonded with the fabric; The other is called online composite, in the fabric coated with glue or no glue, directly the TPU flow on the fabric to make TPU composite fabric or clip mesh cloth. In the post-paste process, high temperature and high pressure should be added to the TPU film again. Improper process control will cause damage to the film and even small holes.


What are the characteristics of TPU?




Wear resistance

When the material in the use process is often subjected to friction, scraping, grinding and other mechanical effects, will cause its surface gradually wear, so the choice of material wear is very important. TPU plastic raw material has excellent wear resistance, more than five times the wear resistance of natural rubber, it is one of the preferred materials for wear resistant products.


Tensile property

Tensile strength up to 70MPa, elongation at break up to 1000%.
Tearing property

Elastomer in the application of the rupture due to the expansion of the tear is called tearing strength is the ability of the material to resist tearing; Generally speaking, TPU has high tear resistance, and the tear strength is very excellent compared with some commonly used rubber and plastic.


flexability

Many plastic materials are prone to fracture under repeated cyclical stress. TPU products can maintain excellent flexion resistance in different environments, making them one of the best choices among polymer materials.


Hydrolysis resistance

The water resistance of TPU under turbidity is good, and no obvious hydrolysis occurs in 1 ~ 2 years, especially the polyether series. Polyester series in 50℃ water soaking for half a year or 70℃ soaking for 3 weeks or 100℃ soaking for 3 ~ 4 days, will be completely decomposed, this is one of the reasons that TPU is suitable for environmental protection materials, products that need regular contact with water, it is recommended to use polyether series.


High temperature resistance and oxidation resistance

General plastic raw materials are easy to oxidize in the environment above 70℃ for a long time, and TPU has good oxidation resistance. Generally speaking, the temperature resistance of TPU can reach 120℃.


Oil and drug resistance

TPU is a kind of strong polar polymer material, and non-polar mineral oil affinity is very small, in fuel oil (such as kerosene, gasoline) and mechanical oil (such as hydraulic oil, oil, lubricating oil, etc.) almost free from erosion; Among them, polyester series of TPU products have better oil resistance; The volume of TPU film and sheet has little change to oil, and the tensile strength is even higher than the original value. It should be noted that if there is a small amount of water in mineral oil, it will have different degrees of negative effects on the physical properties of the film.


Cold tolerance is prominent

TPU has very good low temperature resistance, usually can reach -50℃, can replace general PVC due to low temperature embrittlement and can not be applied in various fields, especially suitable for use in the cold zone related types of products.


Air tightness


TPU is very easy to use high frequency wave or hot pressing to weld, so it is widely used in aerated products. Gas coefficient refers to the rate at which gas passes through a specified area of a sample at a given temperature and pressure. The permeability of the same material to different gases sometimes varies greatly. Generally speaking, polyester series products air tightness is better than polyether series.


Biomedical properties

TPU has excellent biocompatibility, non-toxic, no allergic reaction, no local irritation, no heat, so it is widely used in medical, health and other related products as well as sports, protective equipment.
