PPS Material Information

PPS plastic (polyphenylene sulfide) is a high-performance thermoplastic engineering polymer with excellent comprehensive properties. Its key advantages include high temperature resistance, outstanding chemical resistance, and superior mechanical strength. When dropped on the ground, PPS products may even produce a metallic sound due to their rigidity.

Pure PPS is rarely used alone because of its intrinsic brittleness. Most commercial PPS materials are modified grades, among which glass fiber reinforced PPS is one of the most widely used.

PPS long glass fiber (LGF) composites offer significant improvements in toughness, reduced warpage, excellent fatigue resistance, and a good surface appearance. They are commonly used in water heater impellers, pump housings, fittings, valves, chemical pump impellers and casings, cooling water impellers and shells, and household appliance components.

What Are the Applications of PPS?

At room temperature, the tensile strength of carbon fiber modified PEEK material is doubled compared with that of non-enhanced, and it is tripled at 150℃. At the same time, the enhanced composite material has also been greatly improved in terms of impact strength, bending strength and modulus, and the elongation has been sharply reduced, and the thermal deformation temperature can exceed 300℃. The main advantages of nylon 6 are its stiffness and resistance to abrasion. Moreover, this material has excellent impact strength, wear resistance, and electrical insulating properties. Nylon 6 is a highly elastic and fatigue-resistant material, meaning it will return to its original proportions after being distorted by tension. Automotive industry Applications: PPS long glass fiber (PPS-LGF) composites are widely used in industries that require high strength, heat resistance, and chemical resistance.

Automotive Applications

Due to its excellent mechanical properties, PPS-LGF is widely used for fuel system components, sensor housings, electrical system components, and structural covers.
Its high strength, rigidity, low coefficient of thermal expansion, and dimensional stability ensure durable performance.

In the industrial field, PPS-LGF is used for parts such as chemical processing equipment, pump impellers, compressor components, gaskets, valves, and fluid-handling components.
Besides its high strength, PPS-LGF materials also exhibit good self-lubricating properties, which are beneficial for moving mechanical parts.
Compared with traditional short-fiber reinforced materials, PPS-LGF significantly improves performance, durability, and reliability.

The wide range of applications of PPS-LGF includes aerospace, automotive, electronics, chemical equipment, and medical device components.
This polyamide is non-toxic and can be combined with glass or carbon fibers to increase performance. The absorption capacity of the material grows in direct proportion to the quantity of moisture it absorbs. The high affinity of nylon 6 for some dyestuffs allows for more dyeing diversity, with the potential for brighter, deeper patterns.

FAQ

What processes are LFT materials suitable for? LFT materials are mainly suitable for injection molding, and partially for extrusion. Injection molding machines require appropriate screw and nozzle designs to ensure smooth processing of long fibers.

Why are your products so long? Why does the material I used before, filled with glass fiber, look different? Although both LFT (long fiber reinforced thermoplastics) and SFT (short fiber reinforced thermoplastics) combine fiber with resin to enhance properties, they differ in production process, internal structure, appearance, performance, and application.

Process: SFT uses chopped fibers premixed with resin, while LFT is produced through melt-impregnation, keeping fibers longer and more continuous.

Internal structure: SFT fibers are short and randomly distributed; LFT fibers are long, aligned, and fully impregnated.

Appearance: SFT pellets are usually <3 mm, while LFT pellets are 5–24 mm.

Performance: LFT offers 1–3× the impact strength, over 50% higher tensile strength, and significantly improved overall mechanical properties.

Applications: LFT is preferred for load-bearing and structural parts requiring high mechanical strength.
