PPS Long Glass Fiber Reinforced (PPS-LGF) Engineering Thermoplastic
PPS (Polyphenylene Sulfide) is a high-performance special engineering plastic widely known as "plastic gold" due to its outstanding balance of thermal, mechanical, chemical, and electrical properties.

Why Use PPS as a Composite Matrix?
PPS offers excellent heat resistance, chemical resistance, flame retardancy, radiation resistance, and dimensional stability. Compared with other high-performance thermoplastics, PPS also features easy processing, low water absorption, and strong adhesion with fibers and fillers, making it an ideal matrix for composite materials.
PPS Material Performance
Although PPS has excellent inherent properties, pure PPS is relatively brittle and has limited impact resistance. It is also difficult to process and relatively expensive. To overcome these limitations, reinforcement modification is widely applied.
By adding long glass fiber (LGF), PPS significantly improves in thermal conductivity, wear resistance, mechanical strength, and high-temperature performance.
PPS-LGF vs PPS-SGF (Short Glass Fiber)
Glass fiber acts as a reinforcing skeleton inside the polymer matrix. Under external load, stress is transferred to the fibers, improving mechanical performance through fiber fracture and energy absorption mechanisms.

Compared with short glass fiber (SGF) reinforced PPS, PPS-LGF shows significantly better mechanical properties. Tensile strength, flexural strength, and modulus can be improved by more than 10%–20%, while impact performance is significantly higher due to longer fiber length and stronger internal fiber network.
As fiber content increases, a more complete reinforcement network is formed inside the composite, further improving structural stability and overall performance.
Overall, PPS-LGF materials provide 2–5 times better mechanical performance compared to PPS-SGF systems.
