Modified nylon PA6 and PA66 are what material, what is the difference between them? 2023-03-30

PA6, also known as nylon 6, is a translucent or opaque milky white particle, with thermoplastic, light weight, good toughness, chemical resistance and durability characteristics, generally used in auto parts, mechanical parts, electronic and electrical products, engineering accessories and other products.

The chemical and physical properties of PA6 are similar to those of PA66; however, it has a lower melting point and a wide process temperature range. Its impact resistance and solubility are better than PA66, but it is also more hygroscopic.

Since many quality characteristics of plastic parts are affected by hygroscopicity, this should be fully considered when designing products using PA6. In order to improve the mechanical properties of PA6, a variety of modifiers are often added. Fiberglass is the most common additive, and synthetic rubber is sometimes added to improve impact resistance.

PA66 plastic has a higher melting point in polyamide materials. It is a semi-crystalline - crystalline material. PA66 can also maintain strong strength and stiffness at higher temperatures. PA66 plastic still has hygroscopic properties after molding, the extent of which mainly depends on the composition of the material, wall thickness and environmental conditions. The effect of hygroscopicity on geometric stability must be considered in product design. In order to improve the mechanical properties of PA66, a variety of modifiers are often added. Glass is the most common additive, and sometimes synthetic rubber is added to improve impact resistance. PA66 plastic is less viscous and therefore flows well (but not as well as PA6).

PA66 (polyamide 66 or nylon 66), compared with PA6, PA66 is more widely used in the automotive industry, instrument housing and other products requiring impact resistance and high strength requirements.

Widely used in the manufacture of machinery, automobile, chemical and electrical equipment parts, such as gear, roller, pulley, roller shaft, pump body impeller, fan blade, high pressure sealing, valve seat, gasket, bushing, various handles, support frame, wire package inner layer, etc.

PA66 plastic raw material is translucent or opaque opalescent crystalline polymer, with plasticity. Density 1.15g /cm3. Melting point 252℃. Embrittlement temperature -30℃. Thermal decomposition temperature is greater than 350℃. Continuous heat resistance 80-120℃, balanced water absorption rate of 2.5%. Resistant to acid, alkali, most aqueous inorganic salts, alkyl halides, hydrocarbons, esters, ketones and other corrosion, but easy to phenol, formic acid and other polar solvents. It has excellent wear resistance, self lubricity and high mechanical strength. But the water absorption is larger, so the dimensional stability is poor

PA66 is a variety of PA series with high mechanical strength and wide application. Due to its high crystallinity, it has high rigidity and heat resistance.
