Types of modified materials and advantages of long fiber modified materials 2021-03-25

According to the long fibers in the plastics, they can be divided into short fiber reinforced thermoplastics (generally 0.2 to 0.4 mm in length), long fiber reinforced thermoplastics (generally more than 10 mm in length) and continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastics.

At present, long glass fiber reinforced thermoplastics, according to the classification of the process, mainly includes the following three:
1) GMT (Glass Mat Reinforced Thermoplastics), the semi-finished product is sheet material, which is laminated by Glass fiber Mat and thermoplastic (film);The final product is moulded.Another class of moulding composites that can be confusing is BMC (Bulk Molding Compounds) and SMC (Sheet Molding Compounds), both of which are mainly for thermosetting plastics. BMC is short glass fiber and SMC is long glass fiber (typically 20 to 50 mm in length).
2) LFT-D (Long Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastics Direct), without semi-finished products;Continuous fiber and plastic through the twin screw mixing, extruding sheet material, quantitative cutting, heat preservation transportation, and finally direct molding;There are also some LFT-D processes for direct injection molding.(Note: The leading equipment suppliers for LFT-D are KraussMaffei and Dieffenbacher.)
3) LFT-G (Long Fiber Reinforced Plastics Granules), semi-finished products are plastic particles with length of 10 to 25 mm, which are composed of continuous Fiber impregnated with plastic melt, pultruded and granulated;The final product is moulded (pellets about 25 mm in length) and injection moulded (pellets about 10 mm in length), of which injection moulding is the main direction.
