PA12, also known as Nylon 12, polydodecactam, or polylauractam, is a long-chain nylon. It is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic material with excellent dimensional stability, low water absorption, high temperature and corrosion resistance, toughness, and easy processing. Compared with PA11, the raw material butadiene for PA12 costs only one-third of castor oil, making PA12 a cost-effective alternative in automotive fuel pipes, air brake hoses, submarine cables, 3D printing, and other applications.
PA12 combines the advantages of PA6, PA66, and polyolefins (PE, PP), offering lightweight design with excellent physical and chemical performance. The table below shows typical performance data:

PA12 has numerous non-polar methylene groups, making the molecular chain more flexible. Its polar amide groups allow strong hydrogen bonding, creating regular molecular arrangement, high crystallinity, and strength. Key features include low water absorption, excellent low-temperature performance, airtightness, alkali and oil resistance, medium resistance to alcohol, dilute acids and aromatic hydrocarbons, good mechanical and electrical properties, and self-extinguishing behavior.
1) Density: 1.01–1.03 g/cm³, the lowest among engineering plastics, reducing vehicle weight and fuel consumption.
2) Melting point: 172–178℃, fully suitable for automotive fuel and brake pipes.
3) Water absorption: Lowest among nylon materials, ensuring excellent dimensional stability.
4) Impact strength: Excellent even at -20℃ to -40℃, ideal for pipes exposed to air.
5) Low-temperature performance: Brittleness temperature -70℃, suitable for cold-resistant parts.
6) Flexibility: Varies with plasticizer content; higher plasticizer increases flexibility.
7) Low wear & friction: Self-lubricating, low noise, excellent abrasion resistance.
8) Fuel resistance: Resistant to oxygenated fuels, high aromatic fuels, and alcohol blends.
9) Zinc chloride resistance: Excellent corrosion resistance, UV and ozone aging resistance.
10) Electrical performance: Outstanding dielectric properties in humid environments.
